In my Digital Imaging class this semester, our final for the class was to create a book of our best images throughout the semester. I was to design the layout and write for the book. This was a great assignment because I learned a lot. I have made books before, but I went about designing this a different way. In the past, I would usually just throw pictures in already made templates. However I went through and organized the pictures and narrowed them down to what I wanted to include in the book. For this one I knew it was going to be 20 pages, so I then started by sketching on paper how I wanted to do the layouts. It was a lot easier for me to organize and see how I wanted to layout everything.
It was beneficial to do it this way because I had more control to see everything on paper and it was easier to arrange things how I wanted. Then it was so much easier to design it in InDesign by just going off the sketches. I knew I wanted a minimal theme with white backgrounds so you could focus on the pictures. So I have a similar theme going through the book with the titles for each page. This was fun to do and it actually went faster than trying to figure out the layout as you are going in InDesign.
I showed you a post with the half book pages, but now that I’ve ordered the book I wanted to take some pictures to show you what it looked like. Overall, I’m happy with how it turned out.
